Board Technique

"I am an advanced skier (reds and blacks) and want to try snowboarding as my son is a snowboarder. People say it is easier to learn than skiing. Is that true and should I have a few lessons? What other tips should I bear in mind?"

Hi there,

There is always the argument that snowboarding is easier to learn, certainly a background of board sports or skiing will help. Its likely in the initial phase of learning that you'll take a few tumbles. Sessions with an instructor will make learning a quicker and easier process.

When choosing hire equipment make sure its of a good standard. Use the regular strap in bindings (no step in rubbish). Staff in hire shops can often be behind the times. Always go for a set up that is in a duck stance. A plus angle on the front foot and a minus angle on the back, this will allow you to stand in a good solid natural position and allow you to make the correct movements.

If you are coming to Verbier take a lesson with es ride snowboard school. Check out www.es-ride.com . Good luck and enjoy, you'll never need to have sore feet again!!
