I am driving into Chamonix in early December, it is chucking it down with snow and I really, really do not want to be here. Or anywhere for that matter.

As a ski journalist I get invited to many, many events to hear people promoting their products. Occasionally it is interesting, most times rather dull and every now and again slightly surreal.

I am flying over The Pyrenees gazing down on the mountains of Andorra. It used to be one of my favourite places to ski.

Everyone has their own requirements and I have stayed in many as I criss-cross the Alps during the summer and winter. So, what do I prefer?

Legend and legendary are pretty overused words. But how else do you describe Ali Ross? The man is unique.

I've helped out in quite a few mountain accidents and rescues but never an incident involving one of my own children.
