GREAT RESORTS FOR NON-SKIERS
Tuesday April 3, 2018 - Email this article to a friend

Here's something different: Where is good to not ski - and a unique chalet you'll have to act on quick to bag for next season: NEW

The Alps aren't just for skiers and visiting the mountains isn't just about whizzing around the slopes.

The peace of the mountains create the perfect environment in which to relax and recharge, if that's what you want.

There are also a host of other winter activities on offer that don't include strapping on skis or a snowboard.

Experienced chalet company Alpenglow knows that there are resorts out there much better than others for providing a well rounded winter holiday.

Ones that cater for winter guests who are not all about the skiing.

So here they are, four winter resorts to visit to not ski:

Serre Chevalier, France

Alpenglow names 'Serre Che' a top pick for non-skiers.

The resort is linked with Briancon, which has more than one UNESCO world heritage site due to it's Vauban fortifications.

There is a medieval fort at the top of the town and inside the walls there's a maze of little shops, bars and restaurants.

The thermal baths in Monetier, one of the Serre Chevalier linked villages, make for a perfect day-time activity.

Serre Chevalier also features an ice driving track, dog sledding and has a parapente school to soar above the resort and slopes of Serre.

St Anton, Austria

St Anton is a historic market town; it was a social hub foremost, then a ski resort.

... Hard to believe now that it's considered one of the world's most reputed ski areas.

But its year-round residents mean that the town is buzzing, peak season or not, and there are shops, restaurants and bars a-plenty.

The town's wellness centre is a big draw for non-skiers during a winter break.

Pools, indoor and out, a spa area with saunas and treatment rooms, and a bar with a classic club menu of salads to tropical drinks.

The train station in the centre of town means a day trip to Innsbruck is as easy as, and the Tirolean city itself is worth a whole other story...

Val d'Isere, France

This one probably won't surprise you, but here's a reminder as to why this resort is a perfect place to be winter-side, off the slopes.

We wonder if you put 10 people on the street to the test, asking them to name a ski resort anywhere, how many would come back with Val d'Isere as their answer?

With good reason, too.

The main thoroughfare is lined with shops and bars with plenty of places to sit outdoors and watch the world go by.

Hot chocolate at the Chevallot bakery after a morning at the world-class aquatic centre at the gym, spa-ing yourself or getting zen with some yoga.

Take the ski lift up to the Fruitiere restaurant and famous ski bar, La Folie Douce to join the skiers and boarders for lunch or apres, without having to strap on skis yourself...

Walks through the Manchet valley are also a must if the weather is good, and the rest of it is there to be explored by you.

Morzine, France

Morzine offers many non-ski based activities to keep everyone busy off the planks.

The bars, restaurants pool and spa in the town centre make it a fun spot but the main attraction is the local ice hockey that plays during the winter.

Or, if you're looking to get the adrenaline pumping more than this, what about ice diving?

Montriond Lake is where you can plunge into the icy depths and take a look around.

TOP PICK

Here's something to get you pumping for next winter (we know, we know... This one ain't over yet).

You'll have to get in early, though, to bag this unique chalet for next winter.

Chalet Angelique is a farmhouse conversion that sleeps 12 in the La Daille area of Val d'Isere.

The La Daille lift station is a three-minute walk from the chalet and the bus stop is close by to whisk you up double time to the vibrant village.

The property itself is something special and feels much more like a stately home than an alpine ski chalet.

For those that need a bit more action after the ski day has finished, the chalet has a gymnasium and a steam room.
