Scotland Yard has confirmed that a 51-year old man was breath tested and then taken to a nearby police station last Monday.
The plane, with 124 passengers on board and 11 crew, was about to take off for Chicago.
The flight was cancelled and passengers transferred to other flights.
It's believed another member of the airline contacted the police after they suspected he had been drinking.
