Ryanair pulls out of Swiss airport

It is closing the 6 routes it runs to Basel from around Europe. One goes from Stansted and is a good back door route into Switzerland for skiers and snowboarders.
Now here at PlanetSKI we reckon most people don't realise you can use Basel to get to many ski resorts in Central Switzerland, but you can.
It is often much cheaper than flying to Geneva or Zurich and car hire is less too.
It is just to the north of Zurich so almost as convenient.
There is a regular bus service to the railway station which is about 20 minutes away and then you can access your ski resort with the efficient Swiss rail system.
However Ryanair has announced it is closing its routes as the airport charges are too expensive.
"Ryanair continues to lower fares to encourage travel, but with passengers paying lower fares airports must lower their charges," a spokesman for the airline has said.
"Ryanair will continue to grow at low cost airports which work with us to deliver the low fares required to keep passengers flying during this recession."
It may also have something to do with a lack of bookings as the airline has offered surprising deals recently to skiers and snowboarders including free equipment carriage.
If you want to use Basel then EasyJet and BA still fly into the city.
