Want a half price holiday?
Saturday November 28, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
Another raft of deals and discounts has come out with some good offers over Christmas and a few in January. New Year is still pricey, but it will probably change.
Last week holidays at Xmas were discounted heavily by the tour operators with one even telling us of a price war breaking out and a "bloodbath".
So what is happening now?
Well there are still plenty of deals around for Christmas with some half price ones on offer in our updated deals and discounts section. A week in a 3* chalet In Les Arcs over the festive period can be had for as little as £390.
New Year in The AlpsXmas used to be a sure bet for the tour operators but has been a so-called, discounted date, for a number of years now. The tour operators don't expect to get brochure prices and most people think they'll get a discount.
There are just a handful of deals around at the New Year so this is either because they are selling well or the tour operators are waiting, hoping and seeing who will blink first.
Our guess is the latter and there should be a few good offers around for the New Year break soon, but they will still be pricey as it is the most expensive time of the season. They won't be as good as last year either.
Interestingly January, traditionally low season, is doing rather well. This is probably because it is cheaper and with a reduced capacity in January we confidently predict here at PlanetSKI we will not see the price slashing there was last year.
What will please people is the cold temperatures and the frsh snow thta is falling in parts of the Alps; the early falls of the season have provided a reasonable base high up but for everywhere else it has melted. Now though things maybe about to change.
Poor snow would be little short of a disaster for the industry this winter.
