BA Xmas strike is on
Monday December 14, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

Cabin crew are striking over Christmas and New Year and it will have an impact for many people going skiing over the holiday period.

The strikes will take place between December 22nd and January 2nd

Cabin crew are against changes to their contracts and job cuts.

There was an 80% turn out and staff voted 9 to 1 in favour of industrial action.

BA has said it will make every effort to minimise the impact and will be contacting all passengers who might be affected.

Staying on the groundStaying on the groundThe union said it had no alternative to protect its members and said it is ready to meet at any time to try to find a negotiated settlement.

For anyone planning to fly with BA to a ski destination it is nothing short of a disaster as finding an alternative flight at this late stage will be extremely difficult and very expensive.

One option might be to drive, especially if you are in a group, as it will probably be cheaper than buying another flight so close to departure date. As a rough guide it is £500 for a car including crossing, petrol and tolls.

A return flight with easyJet from London Gatwick to Geneva going out on 26th December and returning on January 2nd currently costs up to £495.98 and that is without taking a bag or skis. They take it up to £550.98. Then there is the fee for using a debit or credit card.

For skiers and snowboarders flying with BA on an Xmas or New Year trip the industrial action is extremely bad news.

Are you affected by the industrial action and what are your thoughts on the dispute?
