Val Gardena doesn't disappoint

Svindal wins and Bode Miller comes in fifth place. It was Svindal's first victory since his return form injury and Miller did well with a sore ankle.
The Swiss sensation Carlo Janka came second after a disappointing weekend in Val d'Isere in the last World Cup meeting.
Janka has been the talk of The World Cup circuit this season.
The 23-year old won all three races in Beaver Creek, USA, earlier this month, then failed to finish in all the races in Val d'Isere last weekend.
"It's a big satisfaction to be back on the podium," Janka said. "It's difficult to describe what happened in Val d'Isere. I've never gone out in three races like that."
For Svindal the win in Val Gardena was the 13th World Cup win of his career.
Miller said he was satisfied with his performace and is beginning to show some consistency after a slightly hesitant start to the season.
Another skier was injured when the Canadian, Francois Bourque, tore the ACL in his left knee after landing a jump awkwardly in the Super-G.
However there was some great news for the Canadians on Saturday as Manuel Osborne-Paradis won the downhill beating off some tough competition. Bode Miller came 9th and Svindal could only manage 17th
There are serious worries about the rising tide of injures and, as we reported here, meetings have been held in Val Gardena between racers and officials. The Canadians seem to have been partucularly badly hit in this their Olympic season.
We'll bring you further news later.
Meanwhile over in Engleberg, Switzerland , the Swiss jumper Simon Ammann had a hudge first-round leap to win the event. It was hampered and delayed by strong winds.
