It's raining in the Alps
Wednesday December 30, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
And we don't just mean a light shower; it's chucking it down in many resorts across the mountains. However things are set to improve with a cold front coming in. For the moment though check out the PlanetSKI video of what it looks like.
There's few more depressing sights in a ski resort than rain. It engulfs everyone with gloom, washes away the snow and, er, you get a bit wet. Many people recently have got absoluley soaked with heavy rain falling in resorts.
In PlanetSKI's base resort of Verbier it's been raining in town and up to 2,000m for hours on end. It's been a simlar picture elsewhere too.
People stopped skiing, out came the umbrellas and it barely felt like holiday time.
However up top there was powder snow, but also poor visibility.
See below for a video of what it looks like in Verbier from our content editor, James Cove.
But, as James said in his report, it is due to get colder over the next few days and then further heavy snowfall is expected.
When we get the expected powder day and the weather cheers up we will bring you a report and video of what it looks like - the depressing pictures of the rain will then be a distant memory.
For the spirit of the mountains.
