Sweden culls mountain wolves
Sunday January 3, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
Wolves are making a come back across Europe and many more are in the Alps. Sweden is the latest country to be concerned about their rapid growth.
The Swedish parliament has allowed a limited cull for the first time in over 4 decades allowing 27 to be killed.
It's thought half that number has been shot.
It's estimated there are around 200 wolves in Sweden and they are threatening farm animals.
The issue was raised in the Alps over the summer by farmers as more wolves bred. They are listed as a protected species and so can not be killed.
The southern French Alps seem to have the most and they have grown in numbers in Switzerland too, as we have already reported on PlanetSKI.
For further details of the cull in Sweden see this BBC story.
