Classic Lauberhorn weekend
Monday January 18, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
The Lauberhorn downhill race in Wengen was won by the Swiss racer, Carlo Janka. Bode Miller won the super-combined and Ivica Kostelic was victorious in the slalom. With the Olympics fast approaching it's a good indication of who to look out for.
The Lauberhorn is one of the most famous races on The World Cup circuit and is the one they all want to win.
The weekend's competition did not disappoint with 30,000 people lining the course for the Downhill.
Janka took gold with the Canadian, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, coming second and Marco Buechel, from Lichenstein, in third position.
Bode Miller was doing well but then missed a gate towards the end and so was disqualified.
The race has now been running for 80 years and is the longest race on the circuit. See this preview piece we had on PlanetSKI last week some of its history and past performances.
Miller took first place in the super-combined on Friday and with Janka in second place the battle between the 2 men could be the highlight on the coming Olympics. It is certainly what the media will be talking about.
For the full race results see the FIS website.
