Friday January 22, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
The event takes place this weekend in Langschlag, Lower Austria, and is designed so anyone can give the race a go. Hundred's of Cross Country skiers are expected to take part
There will be 5 different distances; enthusiasts can battle it out over the 51-kilometre marathon distance or for the slightly easier option in the 25.5-kilometre half marathon.
There will also be three more distances, including a kids' race which all take place on the Saturday.
Sunday is designed to be a family day with loads of attractions, demonstrations and activities all taking place on the snow.
There will also be an after race party (for those who have any energy left!) with a fun park featuring a sledging hill and ice skating at Frauenwieser pond.
Cross-Country skiing is renowned as one of the hardest disciplines, which means less and less people are trying it.
This event is just one of the ways Austria is trying to change this trend.
