Ski racers raise money for Haiti
Friday January 29, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The top racers are conducting an on-line auction of their race bibs and have so far raised €33,000 for the disaster relief fund.

Didier Cuche's winning bib from his victory in Kitzbuhel last weekend and the one worn by Lyndsey Vonn in Cortina are up for grabs.

The men in Kitzbuhel and the Ladies in Cortina arranged the auction with the backing of FIS.  The bibs are signed by the athletes.

The men's auction has so far raised €33,529 (£28,475) with Bode Miller's bib currently going for €1,480 (£1,277) and Didier Cuche's for a staggering €11,162 (£9,631) .

There have been 683 bids for the women's items raising thousands of pounds too.

They are not the only people in the ski world raising money for the victims of the devastating earthquake.

One holiday company in America is donating 5% of the money it takes on bookings from now until the end of the season, as we reported here.

Cuche himself also donated 20% of his prize winnings from the race last weekend in Kitzbuhel for the victims of the earthquake.

The  bidding will continue on eBay until January 30th.
