Tuesday February 16, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
The 18 year old was leading a group in the Highlands when a cornice collapsed. His mother was there at the time.
Stephen Young was leading an organised Scouting trip. A group that consisted of adults.
They were in the Cairngorms coming down from Creag Meagaidh when the cornice of snow collapsed and Young fell to his death.
He was rescued and taken to hospital in Fort William by helicopter where he was certified as dead.
He was a Scout Association young leader from Kent who spent 2007 sleeping in a tent in aid of a children's hospice.
First reports in the British media say he was caught in an avalanche but that is not now thought to be the case.
