Skiers in plane drama
Monday February 22, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

Hundreds of people returning from a ski holiday watched in horror as fuel leaked from the wing just after take off. The plane circled to loose weight and then landed safely.

The Boeing 757 was carrying 231 passengers who had been on a half term ski/snowboard holiday with Thomas Cook in Italy last week.

The plane had just left Caselle airport in Turin and was bound for Birmingham when the pilot and passengers saw fuel spurting out of the right wing.

Dramatic pictures we have seen show it leaking out at an alarming rate and leaving a large vapour trail in the sky.

The pilot radioed to make an emmergency landing and was given permission to do so once enough fuel had been dropped so the plane was light enough to land.

Fire engines, ambulances and rescue services were on standby as the plane came in to land but the pilot made a perfect landing to the deep relief of the passengers on board.

The plane was repaired by an enginner and an investigation is under way.

All the passengers are now back in the UK.
