Coldest UK winter for 30 years
Monday March 1, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
And that's just the average across Great Britian. It's been the coldest in Scotland for almost 50 years.
The Met Office has just released its preliminary figures.
The average temperature across the UK this winter has been 1.5c.
The lowest since 1978/79 when it was 1.2c
However in Scotland, which has 5 ski resorts and has recorded bumper snowfalls, it has been the coldest since the ferocious winter of 1962/63.
For many the skiing has been the best, despite the high level of days resorts have been closed due to heavy snow.
See this separate story on what it is like at the moment.
The PlanetSKI content editor, James Cove, will be in Scotland later this week so do check back for his reports and video.
"I've skied in over 250 different resorts across the world but never, to my regret, have I skied in Scotland," Cove says. "I am looking forward to putting that to rights, though I am not sure if I will be putting on a kilt on Saturday!"
On Saturday the resort of Cairngorm is trying to set a record for the most people skiing at any one time in a kilt.
The resort is aiming for 400.
Let's hope it is not too cold for those that do.
