Olympic gold medalist to race in Verbier
Sunday March 7, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

Didier Defago, winner of The Downhill in Vancouver, will once again be taking part in The Verbier High Five by Carlsberg. It's a pro/am race that is a lot of fun.

Britain's Chemmy Alcott will also be competing as well as the Canadian, Manuel Osborne-Paradis, who came 2nd in the Lauberhorn in Wengen this season.

The French racer, Luc Alphand, who won the World Cup in 1997 is also confirmed.

The concept of the Verbier High Five by Carlsberg is based on professional and amateur skiers and snowboarders competing together.

See this PlanetSKI video report from last season on what it's all about.

It was won by PlanetSKI reader and former British racer, Amanda Pirie.

See below a video interview with Amanda after her success.

The invited pros compete with each other, but also with some 350 amateurs, from which the best after the first four competitions make up a team with the "Champions" in the finals of the parallel slalom.

It is serious but as it comes at the end of the season, for both the pros and the amateurs, it is known for its relaxing and "après ski" atmosphere.

PlanetSKI will be there on March 27th and we will be bringing you a series of reports.

It promises to be a lot of fun once again.
