Skiing may still come to Cardiff
Sunday March 7, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
Long standing plans for the first indoor snow centre in Wales, in Cardiff, have re-emerged.
There's growing interest in indoor snow centres with half a dozen UK cities currently considering proposals.
A report from officers of Cardiff Council recommended that the council agree to, "procure a developer/operator to design, build, fund and operate a snow facility at the International Sports Village site".
The development would also include an ice rink and a conference centre while the full International Sports Village site would also feature a hotel, casino, multi-purpose arena, international swimming pool and Olympic canoeing and white water centre.

Other cities and towns in the UK are also looking at plans to develop indoor snow centres.
They include Sunderland, Southampton and Blackpool.
It follows the success of the most recent one, The Snow Centre, in Hemel Hempstead, to the north of London.
