Polish skier in Olympic doping scandal
Thursday March 18, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The Polish Olympic Committee has confirmed that a cross-country skier has tested positive for EPO at the Vancouver Games.

It is the first serious doping case of the recent Winter Games.

2 ice hockey players were found to have stimulants for cold remedies in their blood. They have been reprimanded but suffered no further punishment.

Kornelia Marek came 6th in the 20km relay and took part in several other events.

It's believed she was having injections in her muscles and that they contained banned chemicals.

She apparently knew nothing about the contents of the injections as they were administered by the team medical staff and is said to be devastated.

Further tests will now be done and if found guilty she will be stripped of her places and banned from the next Games at Sochi in 2014.
