Snow and rain
Sunday January 25, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
The Alps have been buffeted by another big storm though the temperature has risen so it’s not good for everyone. A team from PlanetSKI was in Chamonix at the weekend.
The morning in Chamonix it looked pretty good. We were greeted by heavy snow fall, about 25cm of fresh snow, and it was –3°c. By lunchtime the temperature had risen to +3°c and it was raining. Raining hard.
All the top lifts were closed due to high winds.
Ericsson in the treesHowever, we managed some great sking while it lasted. We were skiing with Fredrik Ericsson, an extreme skier sponsored by Dynastar.
Later this year he is beginning his attempt to do something never done before.
Climb up and then ski down Mount Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga. He is doing it with a series of friends, unsupported and without oxygen.
Today though it was some gentle skiing in Argentiere. Check out the video below.
It's a bit wetThe conditions are the same across the Alps with the low resorts cursing the rain.
Our reporter in Morzine this week, Jane Peel, told us it has been raining.
In Courmayeur a friend told us it was colder and snow was falling but it was set to warm up later with rain forecast low down.
In Verbier many of the top lifts were closed though snow is predicted to fall over the weekend as another storm comes in.
Well bring you an updated report of conditions later.
Next week on PlanetSKi we'll have an extended interview with Ericsson about his plans. He's a pretty amazing guy!
