More injured gardening than skiing

That's the conclusion of a story released for the Bank Holiday weekend and with summer approaching. Probably not surprising since a larger number of people garden rather than ski, and spend more time doing it too.
It was a survey carried out by AposTherapy that treats chronic joint pains.
Four times as many British people hurt themselves while gardening than skiing.
Apparently DIY had a high casualty rate too with 1 in 20 people hurt carrying out repairs to their homes.
Many more than those injured horse riding or rock climbing.
Walks in the countryside resulted in more accidents than mountain biking.
More dangerous than mountain bikingIt's not safe inside either.
Those people giving their home a spring clean should also be cautious as housework led to more injuries than snowboarding.
"Anyone planning to spend time gardening or decorating should remember that they may be using muscle groups and joints they haven't exercised in a long while," says Dr Peter Mace, assistant medical director of Bupa, which provides the therapy.
"There are simple precautions people can take to avoid injury and the onset of a chronic condition. For instance simple stretching and remembering correct posture can make a massive difference."
Now we are not quite sure of the statistical accuracy of the figures here at PlanetSKI and going through a warm up routine just to do a bit of dusting seems slightly over-the-top, but the survey does probably have a point.
The gentle and more sedate leisure activities carry dangers too.
