EasyJet may have to change name
Sunday June 13, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The founder of the airline is in a court battle this week with the current management. Stelio Haji-Ioannou owns the name and currently licenses it to the airline.

Sir Stelios owns almost 40% of Easyjet's shares and is against the airline's plans to spend money on new aircraft rather than giving shareholders a dividend.

According to the TravelMole web site he says the airline receives more than 25% of its income from ancillary areas.

This would contradict an agreement drawn up between the two sides.

The court case takes place on Thursday.

It has now emerged that the entrepreneur also wants to set up an online travel agency using the Easyjet name.

Currently he licenses the name to the airline for £1 a year.

Easyjet may therefore loose its name and have to re-brand.

Altenatively it may just be a negotiating ploy linked to the court case.
