Vail resorts do well
Sunday June 13, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

It's the latest piece of good news for the US ski resort operator. Last season it had more visitors and they increased their spending according to a report just released.

Between February and March of this year visits went up 4.6% on the previous year.

Vail Resorts owns a number of ski resorts in the USA.

Heavenly had the biggest rise in skier visits, up 9.6%.

Visits for the company's Colorado resorts, Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek and Vail, increased by 3.7%.

The number of skiers and snowboarders going to all five of the company's resorts during the last winter season went up 2.5% on the previous year.

It came despite poor snowfall at the beginning of the winter. Vail did not open its back bowls until after Christmas.

Vail Resorts is on a bit of a roll at the moment.

Earlier we reported on how it had bought the world's most popular ski information web site, OnTheSnow, for an undisclosed amount.

Then earlier this month it was announced that it would be the host for the 2015 World Championships, beating off competition from Switzerland and Italy.

Overall the ski industry in the USA did better last winter than some thought at the beginning of the winter as the US economy improved.

There were some serious worries last Autumn.

We will be getting information on how the resorts in Europe did over the coming weeks and we will bring you the figures when we get them here on PlanetSKI.
