Heather Mills aims to ski for Britain
Monday June 21, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The former wife of Sir Paul McCartney reportedly wants to ski in the GB Paralympic Team at the next Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.

Heather Mills, 42, is a keen skier and has been involved with skiing for a number of years including charity events.

She lost the lower part of her leg in a motorcycle accident in 1993.

She has already taken part in the TV programme 'Dancing on Ice' where she did well.

Her new plans were reported in The SundayExpress.

We have tried to seek confirmation from Ms Mills but so far have been unable to verify the story.

"I've been skiing for many years and I'm much better at that than ice skating, so I'm training hard to try to get on the British Paralympic downhill team," she is reported as saying.

"Having loved sport my whole life, competing in a Paralympics would be a dream come true."

She recently took part in a fund raising event to raise money for the charity set up to help people with a disability learn to ski, Disability Snowsport UK.

She was racing with other members from the GB Paralympics Team and has good connections with the some of the current athletes.

"DSUK organised an incredibly intensive, inspiring, challenging and productive skiathon. It was great to watch people of all abilities integrate; there was real determination on the slopes despite the cold temperatures," said Heather Mills, who took part at the SNO!zone in Milton Keynes.

"The event raised money as well as awareness for the charity who give disabled people the chance to enjoy snowsports. I look forward to taking part next year."

We reported on the event in full here on PlanetSKI

We will bring you further news of her plans and whether she has a chance of making it to the team later.

Competition for the team and the standard of skiing is very high.

Some are former able-bodied racers who have injured themselves while others have put in many years of training.

Ms Mills would be 46 years old in 2014 and she would be one of the oldest competitors.
