Summer finally arrives

The Alps are now getting warm temperatures and sun. So far it's been fog, rain and cold weather and the summer tourist industry has suffered. However it's been OK for people out glacier skiing, including Lindsey Vonn.
Last weekend PlanetSKI was at a ski industry summer party in London and the talk of the tour operators that run summer programmes to the Alps was of just one thing.
Poor weather.
The Alps seems to have been dominated by cloud and rain and it has felt more like Autumn than summer.
Hardly the best conditions for promoting what the mountains have to offer people in the summer months.
Now though that has changed.
In Switzerland temperatures have hit the high 20's and the change is welcome. A week ago it was around 12c and up in the mountains there was some snow down to 1,500m in places.
In neighbouring Austria the snow has been falling too.
The US skier, Lindsey Vonn, has been in Kaprun for some high altitude glacier training and last week she commented on the conditions on her Facebook page.
"I am in Kaprun on the Kufstein glacier for a video shoot with Head. It is definitely still winter up here! After the shoot I will head to Salzburg for 3 weeks of off snow training," she says.
According to weather reports the last time there was this little sun in Switzerland in June was back in 1884.
And the forecast?
Staying warm though there may be a little rain in the southern Alps later in the week.
