Woman climbs Ayers rock and strips off
Tuesday June 29, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

It has outraged local Aboriginals who regard the rock as a sacred site. The event was filmed.

It has been reported in the Australian media that a 25-year old woman climbed the rock and when she reached the top she peeled off her dress and stripped down to a white bikini.

She was also wearing high-heeled boots and a bushman's hat.

The rock, also know as Uluru, is a major tourist attraction and the local aboriginals hold it in high esteem.

It is part of their creation story and a sacred site.

Last year there was a move to get all climbing banned as we reported at the time on PlanetSKI.

There are now calls for the woman, a French tourist, to be deported.

"Too often Uluru is used as a place for individuals to pursue some questionable personal development activities at the expense of Aboriginal law and culture," said David Ross, the director of the central Land Council which represents the traditional owners of Uluru.

The woman herself is reported as saying she did not intend to offend Aboriginal culture but did it as a tribute to how people used to live.
