Boy falls off chairlift
Friday October 16, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
The 10-year old snowboarder fell off a chair lift in the US resort of Olympia Ski Hill.
He fell 35 feet after he was rocking the lift backwards and forwards.
The boy, who was wearing a helmet, landed on his feet and then fell into the mountainside.
He remained conscious and the ski patrol arrived within 2 minutes.
A doctor who happened to be passing by helped and the boy was flown by helicopter to a local hospital where his injuries are not life threatening and it’s not thought he will be permanently injured.
Children actually fall off chair lifts more often than thought. A spokesman for the French ski resorts said they deal with over 100 cases each winter.
2 years ago a child died in a Swiss resort after slipping under the safety barrier and falling.
Courchevel and Meribel issue magnetic vests to children on some lifts so they cannot slide under the barrier and fall off.
