Ski team hit by Heathrow fire
Wednesday July 21, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
The Canadian men's team lost $150,000 worth of kit that was on its way to New Zealand. The team is planning to train at Coronet Peak later this month.
It appears a fire in a warehouse at the airport earlier this month destroyed much of their equipment.
The team and its sponsors and suppliers have been frantically trying to get replacements so the training sessions can go ahead.
"This has come as quite a shock to us but we've decided to push ahead with this important training camp," the Alpine Canada president, Gary Allan, said in a statement to the media.
"Everything we had for the camp has been lost. At this point we are starting from scratch and working our way toward what is needed to make this training camp happen."
The team had planned to ship the equipment to New Zealand this week.
