NZ deaths re-open helmet debate
Saturday July 17, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
2 people have so far died in Mt Hutt this winter after falls. Once again people are talking about making helmets compulsory.
A woman was skiing off piste with her teenage daughter when she slipped and fell over some rocks.
In June an American woman died when skiing off piste in the same resort.
She fell in a different area.
Local media is once again debating whether people should be made to wear ski helmets.
It is unclear whether a helmet would have helped either victim.
The wearing of a helmet is encouraged in the resort, but is not compulsory.
