Fancy ski racing this weekend?
Tuesday July 20, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The Ed Drake Invitational is taking place at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead. It promises to be competitive, fun and raise much-needed funds for Britain's No 1 male racer. Ed is a good friend of ours here at PlanetSKI.

Ski racing in July in the UK may sound slightly odd but it can be done.

Almost 100 people are expected to sign up for the event and it is a dual slalom race open to people of all ages and standards.

There is also an individual slalom too.

"Fun is the name of the game but also expect a bit of competition too," says one of the race organisers.

Ed in actionEd in action"This year is going to be slightly different, when I used to race in the UK what I looked forward to most was the Team Relay Dual Slaloms, so this year I have made that the focus of the event, followed by a individual Giant Slalom Race,' says Ed.

He is currently in Zermatt training up on the glacier and will be flying back especially for the event.

If you have never raced, or indeed skied, at a snow centre you should  be pleasantly surprised.

Ed competed in last winter's Olympic Games and we reported on his performance here.

He is no stranger to The Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead as he has he done some race coaching at the slope and held a fund raising event at the indoor snow centre last year.

See the PlanetSKI video below for a report on the evening.

If you are interested in taking part this Saturday there are a few places left.

It costs £20 to enter and starts at 4pm. It will end by 10.00.

See here for more information and how to enter.

It should be a great evening and PlanetSKI hopes to be there too.
