EasyJet reports increase
Thursday July 29, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

Total revenue went up by 5.3% to £759.2m in the first quarter of this year. The volcanic ash cloud cost it £65m though. The airline is forecasting a profit for the year.

The no-frills airline predicts a profit of £100m - £150m for the year.

Passenger revenue went up 4.5% and the number of people flying went up 1.7% in the first quarter.

The airline had forecast a 10% growth in traffic, but that was before the eruption of a certain volcano in Iceland.

7,314 flights had to be cancelled as large parts of European airspace were closed.

Riding out the economic storm cloudsRiding out the economic storm clouds"EasyJet has continued to deliver a good commercial performance in the quarter with total revenue up 5.3%. This was in spite of the challenges presented by significant disruption caused by volcanic ash and, more recently, the combination of air traffic control industrial action and crewing issues in some parts of our network," says the new easyJet chief executive, Carolyn McCall.

"We have put a mitigation plan in place in response to these recent issues in order to minimise the future impact to our passengers and staff."

However the airline industry still face turbulent times ahead with the economic situation, greater taxes and regulation and the volatile price of oil.

The airline has recently released its winter flights, including some new winter routes, for those skiers and snowboarders wanting to book early.
