Switzerland looks set to be give out a world record speeding ticket. A Swedish man was allegedly travelling at 180mph.
The man, who has not been named, was driving along a motorway near The Alps in a Mercedes sports car and was going 110mphover the limit.
The Mercedes SLS AMG, the same make of vehicle as the safety car at Formula One races, was caught by a new generation speed camera on the A12 between Bern and Lausanne.
It had already evaded a number of radar cameras that were incapable of recording speeds above 200km/h.
Under Swiss road safety laws a fine is determined by the speed of the vehicle and the wealth of the individual.
The police are reported to be highly critical of his speed. The Swiss have some of the safest motorways in Europe with the lowest number of accidents.
The current highest fine is $290,000 and was also issued in Switzerland.
We reported on it here on PlanetSKI.
So if you want to drive fast in Switzerland it appears the best thing to be is poor.
The Swedish man was in a Mercedes SMS AMG. They cost more than £330,000.
