World Champion struck down again
Monday August 16, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The Swiss skiing sensation, Carlo Janka, has once again been hit by a summer mystery virus. He was ill last summer too and doctors are once again puzzled.

The Olympic medallist and overall champion says he feels increasingly tired and is only able to train for a couple of hours a day.

His medical team have carried out tests but cannot come up with a reason, or a cure.

The 23-year old heads off to South America for summer training as normal and is hoping things will improve.

Perhaps this is why he was rather subdued when he met the press in Saas-Fee last month and was a bit downbeat about the whole experience.

Mystery virusMystery virusThe Swiss wonder kid, Carlo Janka, appeared not to be too happy.

"He looks as though he is at a funeral," said reporters at the time and Janka admits to it being "a real hassle".

He was hit by a similar medical condition last summer as we reported a year ago on PlanetSKI.

However, it didn't seem to do him any harm a few months later when it mattered.

The winter.

He won 3 titles at one single event in the USA in December.

The classic Lauberhorn race in his home country in January.

An Olympic gold medal at the Vancouver Games in February.

Oh, and the overall World Cup title too at the end of the season.

Maybe his fans shouldn't be too concerned.
