Man dies after night out in ski resort
Friday August 20, 2010 - Email this article to a friend
It happened in the Australian resort of Mt Buller after the man had apparently been drinking. It's believed he died of hypothermia.
The 21-year old left a bar at 10.30 and never made it home.
His body was discovered the following day and it is believed he got lost on the way back.
He was reported missing by friends when they awoke and found he had not made it back.
An investigation is under way into his death.
The police have warned people to be careful when out drinking at the area's ski resorts.
"Everyone wants to have a drink up here, but there are extreme conditions and they should be aware that if they are going to have a drink they should be very careful on the way home," a police spokeman said to local media.
Similar tragedies have happened in The Alps as people get lost of their way home after a night out in the bars, as we reported here last winter.
Correction and apologies to Australia - when we first put this story up on Thursday evening, European time, we said Mt Buller was in New Zealand.
For those people that emailed in to let us know, many thanks. Especially the ones from Australia who pointed it out very politely.
The writer has said she ought to go on a fact finding mission down under straight away and has volunteered to go on a research ski tour of all the resorts in Australia and New Zealand.
