US resort prepares to make snow
Wednesday August 25, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

Loveland has put out its snow cannons in preparation for a drop in the temperature. It's all a bit of a PR stunt really but, what the hell, it means winter is approaching.

Each year Loveland and Arapahoe Basin in Colorado "battle" it out to see who will open first and each year it produces many pages here on the web and columns of press coverage.

Last year Loveland won so we reckon this season it will be Arapahoe basin. Just a guess.

The coverage this year is no different, except that it seems to start earlier and earlier.

We reported on the battle between the two resorts to open last year - and the press coverage it generates.

Now it seems Loveland is first out of the blocks as it has put out its snow cannons and told the media all about it.

Out they come for another yearOut they come for another year

"We will start making snow as soon as Mother Nature works with us and gets us some lower temperatures," John Sellers from the resort has said.

"We have a countdown on our website currently and we are looking at the week of September 20."

For the countdown clock see here.

Once the snow cannons start producing snow the resort could be open within a few weeks.

The traditional season opener story in the USA is on; already.
