Eden wins Indoor ski championship
Monday August 30, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

The 14 year old girl from Torquay took the under 15 British title at the event at the Castleford Snowdome. Katie Eden beat off some stiff competition.

She competed her two runs in a time of 26.81 at the Lions Ski Club British Indoor Championships.

There were teams from the home nations as well as a specially invited team from La Rosiere in the French Alps.

"I was determined to do my best and put the techniques learnt at summer training to good use. My first run went really well, when I looked at the timing board I found myself in first place in the children two category and second place overall.  As I made my way to the top of the slope for the second run I felt a little anxious," Katie says on her web site.

"The first section went well and then I made a small mistake which costed me time but I held in there. I finished with a respectable time holding onto first place in my age group by 0.05 of a second!"

Second place went to Roxanne Gaide from France, while fellow French skier, Laurine Jacquemod, crossed the line in third place.

Katie spent part of July training on the glacier in Cervinia, Italy, and it certainly seems to have paid off.

"I worked on my technical skills, especially my upper body posture and I was determined to put the techniques learned during summer training to good use," said Katie after her victory.
