Tuesday September 7, 2010 - Email this article to a friend

Team selection was made at the end of last month at Tux in Austria where conditions were far from ideal. With a British skier now the FIS Telemark chairman the future looks hopefull.

It was cold at -5c, the wind was strong and the slopes steep and icy.

There were also a few problems with the timing equipment too but the selectors got there in the end up on the glaicer in Tux.

"Despite the difficult conditions and problems with timing equipment, all the trialists performed well over the four days," said Vice Team Captain, Chris Wotton.

The chosen six are:

Six of the bestSix of the bestAndrew Clarke - Plymouth, Devon

Chris Stewart - Clitheroe, Lancashire

Chris Wotton - Totnes, Devon

Huan Davies - Stanmore, Greater London

Jack Harvard Taylor - Virginia Water, Surrey

Sarah Hannibal - Ischgl, Austria

The sport doesn't get that much expsosure, but here on PlanetSKI  we are pretty keen to give space to it.

We currently have a series up about doing the Haute Route on telemark skis, we reported when the British team captain, Andrew Clarke, was appointed to be the FIS Telemark Chairman.

We have also heard from team members, Jack Harvard-Taylor, who is a good friend of PlanetSKI and the female telemarker, Rachel Morgan.

The team will be taking part in a series of promotional events around the UK.

They will be promoting the sport whilst working with lead sponsor Mercedes - Benz UK before the competitive season kicks-off in January with the first World Cup event held in Germany.

With an impressive performance last season the team hopes to build on that, with athletes achieving consistent top 25 results.

Other confirmed FIS World Cup venues are Switzerland, Norway and Spain.

"With telemark skiing on the up this is an exciting time for the British Team as we look to introduce the sport into the Winter Olympics in the future," said recently appointed FIS Telemark Chairman and British Team Captain, Andrew Clarke.

In a seperate story, PlanetSKI has just interviewed the newest memebr of the British Alpine Team, Jai Geyer.  Keep an eye out for it later in the week.
