2 British people die in Les Deux Alpes
Thursday March 5, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

They fell off a cliff after a night out in the French ski resort.

Richard Ryan, who was 27, and Christopher Lockwood, who was 28,  went missing in the ski resort of Deux Alpes in the early hours of Thursday morning. They were on holiday and both came from the Leeds area.

They took a short cut home after leaving a bar at 2am and fell into the Combe Noir ravine. 7 people have died in the same place in the last 12 years.

It raises questions about the safety of the area for although there are numerous warning signs there is little protection or safety barriers.

They had been drinking in a bar but it is not sure exactly how they both came to fall, though it's understood both men had been drinking heavily.

The 2 men were on holiday with Crystal Ski.

"We are very sorry that this tragic accident has happened," Marion Telsnig a spokeswoman for the company has told us. "It was reported to us on Friday morning that they were missing and the police found these two young men who had suffered a fatal accident. The police are investigating."

The families of the men have been informed of the accident by the Foreign Office.

It follows the death of a girl in Val D'Isere, France,  earlier in the season who got lost on her way back from a night out. We had a report on PlanetSKI.
