The British Association of Snowsports Instructors has selected Roy Henderson to be the organisation's product manager. The new role will involved the creation of new courses and updating existing ones.
BASI has gone from strength to strength in recent years with just over 6,000 members. A few years ago it was 4,000.
This comes at a time when the ski industry has shrunk and been badly hit by the economic downturn. The number of British people skiing has shrunk by around 25% over the last two years and ski schools have seen the number of people taking lessons shrink correspondingly.
However BASI, the organisation that trains ski and snowboard instructors, has undergone rapid expansion.
In part that has been fuelled by a growing number of gap year courses attended by both young people and older people wanting a career break or change in direction.
The organisation has also made big attempts to retain existing members and offer a range of new and useful courses.
Now the organisation has created a product manager to build on this success.
Roy HendersonHenderson is no stranger to the organisation as he has been a trainer since 2001and is a Mountain Safety Advisor to BASI.
He has worked in the snowsports and outdoor activities sector for 20 years in Scotland and The Alps.
He will also manage the departmental budgets, resources and operations as well as working closely with BASI's senior management team to achieve the strategic and business objectives of the association.
"I'm very pleased and excited to be taking up the full time role at BASI and I'm hoping to introduce a bit of stability within the training department by refining existing products and moving ahead with new ones," says Henderson.
"I'm looking forward to working closely and communicating effectively with BASI members and trainers and with my broad experience hope that I can strike the right balance across all disciplines."
"We are pleased to have found someone of Roy's calibre to join BASI's full time staff. The position attracted several quality candidates, however I know that we have made the right choice in appointing Roy and he will be a great asset to BASI as he continues to maintain our high standards," says the chairman of BASI, Gareth Roberts,
"We constantly need to refresh, develop and update our training products to ensure that we are delivering a comprehensive and competitive range of quality training programmes. BASI training methods and qualifications are highly respected within international circles and we are looking to Roy to continue working with our trainers to deliver these high standards."
Henderson takes up the job next month.
