All in the name of charity
Monday February 7, 2011 - Email this article to a friend

Now riding round the Portes du Soleil and covering 150km in two days for charity may sound like fun, but it is also hard on the legs. And, for some, the liver.

33 intrepid skiers and snowboarders have successfully completed the 150km Snow-Camp Everest Challenge in Portes du Soleil, France, raising money for Snow-Camp.

The organisation is a youth charity that gives disadvantaged youngsters the chance to try out skiing or snowboarding.

The task for the fund-raisers involved passing through 15 resorts and included a night skiing session and a mountain night hike.

"We had never skied so fast and so hard and covered such a long distance in such a short time but we loved every minute," is how Esther Collas, one of the participants, describes it in her blog.

Esther, a reader of PlanetSKI, works for the travel agent IGLU, and has just taken part in The Snow-Camp Everest Challenge.

The event has the backing of many including Britain's number 1 female ski racer, Chemmy Alcott.

"The Snow-Camp Everest Challenge has got everything a great fundraising event needs - how else can you combine snowsports, a genuine endurance challenge covering a distance of 150km in 2 days, loads of prizes and a huge party into one weekend?" says Chemmy.

We reported on the event and Esther's fund raising here on PlanetSKI and she has now completed the event.

She has blogged about it, so check it out if you want to see what it was like.

Suffce to say that on the journey back everyone sleot on the coach and thr plane, exhausted by either the event itself or the party after.

For most it was probably both.

For further details about Snow-Camp and if you are interested in taking part next year then check out the organisation's web site.
