Another British skier dies in the Alps

A man lost control on a piste and fell into a ravine in the resort of Alpe d'Huez. Several British people have died this winter after falling over steep drops and cliffs.

The man, 43 year old Michael Probert, was with friends and family in the French resort when he careered off the marked run and fell down a ravine. It's said he was skiing at high speed just before the accident and that he was on a blue run.

He died at the scene from multiple injuries and heart failure.  An air ambulance was on the scene quickly to try to save him.

The rescue services were summoned by the friends and family he was skiing with using their mobile phones.

He was was on a one week holiday and is said to be a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Force based in London.

There have been a number of deaths this winter involving British people falling over cliffs.

Recently a snowboarder died in Verbier and 2 other British people fell over a cliff in Les Deux Alpes after a night out.  The resort is nearby to Alpe d’Huez.
