Skiing in the Caribbean
Friday April 1, 2011 - Email this article to a friend

A British company has put a ski slope on the back of one of its cruise ships so now you can ski for real in the Carribean. You can combine sun and skiing like never before. Apparently.

The largest online ski travel agent IGLU also sells cruise holidays so it claims to have built an artificial ski slope on the back of a vessel it has just launched - The Iglucruise.

"We have created a unique holiday concept that will appeal to all our loyal customers by combining skiing and cruising. The Iglucruise features a 150 metre ski slope on the top deck. At the foot of the ski slope there is a hot tub and après-ski bar. Ski and boot hire is included for all guests," says a statement from IGLU.

We put in a quick check with IGLU and were told instructors are available too but they had to be booked in advance.

The slope is said to be ideal for begginer skiers and snowboarders.

It goes on to have full details of the holidays and a dedicated page on its web site.

The photograph looks plausible and it says more images will be released once the helicopter photo shoot has been completed.

The person behind the new venture is also enthusiastic.

"For many, the ski season just isn't long enough. At, we've sat down to think long and hard about how we can squeeze every last snowflake out of the slopes. Today, we're happy finally to  reveal the result of four years of hard work as our idea comes to fruition," says Penelope Stamp, the Iglucruise Product Innovation Director.

There is even a map of the route it will take on its maiden voyage.
