Where's PlanetSKI in the summer?
Sunday April 26, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

We’ve been asked the question many times recently. “PlanetSKI has become a daily habit for me,” one reader said. “I think it’s far and away the most interesting and informative ski web site and I'll miss you.

Well, we’re still in the mountains, our reporters and contacts are off to the southern hemisphere and summer in the Alps is more varied than winter.

So, we are most definitely still going to be here.

There’s mountain biking, climbing, walking, swimming, paraponting, white water rafting, trekking and a whole host of other activities, including the Tour de France visit to Verbier.  We'll be there cheering on the cyclists.

White water rafting in SloveniaWhite water rafting in SloveniaThere’s even skiing up on the glaciers in the Alps and we'll certainly be doing a bit of that too.

Check out the other photos at the bottom of this page for images of things to do in the mountains in the summer.

It’s an altogether more relaxed affair and, quite frankly, far closer to the spirit of the mountains than the winter.   Don’t get us wrong we love snow, but summer really is something special.

There are also plenty of news stories that we will report on that are relevant to skiers and snowboarders; whether it's how this winter went for the industry - once all the figures start coming in - or what next winter may hold.

Canoeing in the Andes, ArgentinaCanoeing in the Andes, ArgentinaSki resorts build new lifts, plans are made and decisions taken.  We'll be reporting on it all.

As a regular reader you may know that we have been saying how expensive things will get next winter, so we'll tell you what we know and advise on where the best deals are.

This winter in our news section we have tried to bring you unbiased and informative news stories that are not just pushed out press releases from the ski industry and interested parties.

We will do the same during the summer months.

We’ll keep putting up videos too and our content editor, James Cove, will continue with his blog that has proved to be quite a success as he tells us what he gets up to and sounds out on a few issues.

Summer skiing in the French AlpsSummer skiing in the French AlpsSo, if you have liked PlanetSKI over the winter then do keep an eye on it over the summer and please tell your friends about it too.  We rely on word of mouth to spread news of the site.

We have a few changes in the pipeine for next winter too which we will be working on over the coming months.

In the meantime though, the winter continues until the beginning of May as far as we are concerned so we’re still thinking skiing. We'll have reports from the closing weekends of several resorts in France, Switzerland and Austria.

Kylie is playing a closing concert up on the slopes of Ischgl and we will have a report and some video of her performance.

There’s even talk of a weather front moving in and more powder snow at altitude. It seems hard to believe we won’t have more snow, somewhere, this winter.

When it comes down we’ll hopefully be there.
