A man in his 30s reportedly skied into a signpost in Heavenly and died from chest injuries. Local media in California say he died in the resort before he was able to be transported to hospital.
The El Dorado Sheriff's Office says the 34-year old man tried to avoid another skier on the slopes and skied into a sign by the side of the piste.
The accident happened mid-afternoon last Tuesday.
Emergency services were on the scene swiftly and took him to the resorts medical centre where he was to be flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
He died from his injuries before the helicopter arrived.
Next of kin are being informed.
