Should everyone wear a helmet?

There are some interesting statistics in the article.

For example in Scotland there has been a rise in the number of people wearing a helmet of 40% in recent years and yet the number of serious head injuries has remained the same.

A 2011 British Medical Journal study from the University of Innsbruck suggested helmet use reduced head injuries by 35% in adults and 59% in children under 13.

Some think people who wear a ski helmet take more risks but others say that it is just common sense.

Most resorts encourage people to wear a helmet and it is compulsory for children to wear them in Italy and Austria.

A resort in Canada has been the first to make it mandatory for everyone, adults and children alike, to wear a helmet.

The law comes into force next season as we have reported within this story where we also report on the fact that 80% of skiers and snowboarders in Switzerland apparently now wear a ski helmet.

A few years ago we spoke to a British skier, Mervyn Fletcher, who had just bought a helmet for the first time and the points he made stand true today.
