Skiing without snow
Sunday June 14, 2009 - Email this article to a friend

So who needs the white stuff to make a few turns? Some people can ski without it. They ski on grass.

The Grass Skiing season began last weekend in Wilhelmsburg in Austria and there is a whole racing circuit dedicated to it and approved by FIS.

The season’s main highlight events will be the FIS Grass Skiing World Championships in Rettenbach, Austria, from 1st-6th September and the Junior World Championships in Horni Lhota/Ostrava , the Czech Republic .

If you want to find out more about grass skiing – the design of the ski, where it is done and what it’s like then check back on PlanetSKi next week as we are writing a full feature on it.

In the meantime Roller Skiing is becoming more popular in the UK and a similar technique to cross country skiing is used so all you need is a tarmac path that is smooth and not too steep.  It is also fully recognised by FIS.  Check out our recent article on Roller Skiing.

Some people will do anything to carry on skiing!
