Mountain marriages last longer
Friday October 16, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
People who live in the mountains stay married far longer than those who live in cities according to figures just released in Austria.
On average almost half of all marriages in Austria end in divorce, but it’s 64% in cities like Vienna while only 37.9% in the mountainous Tyrol.
The lowest in the country.
The state statistics agency, Statistik Austria, also said that the average length of marriages that ended in divorce was 9.2 years. One in ten marriages ended after a couple’s silver anniversary (25 years), and 20 couples divorced after their golden anniversary (50 years) in 2007
Remarriage to the same partner also seems to be a bad idea for many people, with 1.4 per cent of such marriages ending in a second divorce within a year.
In two cases, remarriage ended in divorce again within a month.
The two oldest men to be divorced in 2007 were both 90, and the oldest woman was 87.
