Fulham Ski Fete claims success
Monday September 30, 2013 - Email this article to a friend

A brand new event took place in London this weekend. It was a cross between an English county fete, a bespoke ski show and an outdoor apres ski party. We rather liked it.

To be honest we weren't quite sure what to expect.

We knew very little about it except for the posters we had seen adorning railings near the PlanetSKI UK office in Putney.

It was in its first year and so, keen to support new events, we turned up.

There was an autumnal chill in the air for the outdoor event but it made us realise the seasons are changing and winter is around the corner.

Good time to have an event perhaps.

Meriski, Scott Dunn, Verbier Exclusive and Supertravel clearly thought so as they were there with stands and stalls.

Around 2,500 people visited across the day, that ran from 11.30am to 6.30pm.

It was organised by the ski holiday specialist, Interactive Resorts.

"We live and breath skiing and just want to put something back by entertaining people, raising money for charity and just getting people enthusiastic about the approaching season," said the director of Interactive Resorts, Theo Morgan, to PlanetSKI.

It was a family day out with a bouncy castles, face painting and much else besides.

The highlight of the day was an attempt to break the world record for the number of people wearing a bobble hat in a single place at a single time.

764 was the number to beat and though that number was exceeded across the day there were not the required number of people in the same place at the same time.

The Fulham Ski Fete was beaten on a technicality.

There will hopefully be another go next year and we expect the record to tumble.

We'll be there in our bobble hats in 2014.Smile

There were raffles for holidays, free boots from the ski boots specialists, Profeet, that is just round the corner and one rather large bottle of champagne - all 6 litres of it.

For the après ski the band Mullit was on stage.

Doing there normal stuff.

Performing to a somewhat younger crowd then they normally do out in the Alps.

"We are really pleased with the turn out, thank you so much everyone. We want to make it an annual event and we are very encouraged by the response," said Nick Barlow the event Manager.

Judging by the people we spoke to - stall holders and visitors - they will be back.
