10 people have died and thousands of buildings across Austria, the Czech republic and Poland have been flooded as heavy rain hits the Northern Alps.
Some areas have had more rain in the last few days than normally falls in 2 months.
In Lower Austria 2,500 fire fighters and 550 soldiers have been pumping out flooded cellars and clearing streets of debris. The Danube burst its banks in places and flooded dozens of homes.
In the town of Güssing some streets were under 1.5 meters of water.
The Czech Republic suffered the worst with 10 people dieing in the floods. 2 men were swept away as they tried to rescue their mother from a flooded building.
Other buildings were simply swept away as rivers became ragging torrents.
In Poland the authorities say the situation is still ‘serious’.
Forecasters say the worst of the weather is now over and the water levels in many rivers have fallen sharply. As the temperature warms up though there are likely to be sharp thunderstorms.
We have been following the floods on PlanetSKI when we first heard it was snowing in some ski resorts through to the more serious flooding and loss of life that has occurred.
