Intrawest cuts costs
Friday August 14, 2009 - Email this article to a friend
The company which owns 10 leading North American ski areas is in financial troubles and trying to reduce overheads.
It owns the venue of many of the skiing events in next year’s Winter Olympics, Whistler.
Reports in the Canadian media even go as far as to say Intrawest may sell some of its resorts.
Intrawest is reported to owe $1.7b and last year managed to re-finance the debt at the last minute and avoid having to get creditor protection.
Intrawest was established in the 1970's and has bought into Les Arcs and Flaine.
There have been rumours and reports for many seasons that it was planning to build near Verbier but this appears to have receeded given the financial situation.
We reported on last season’s fall in skiing in Canada on PlanetSKI earlier this month.
